تم في هذا البحث دراسة واحدة من المشكلات البيئية الناجمة عن سحب المياه الجوفية من حقول آبار مشروع النهر الصناعي وهبوط مناسيب المياه نتيجة الضخ المتواصل من الخزانات الجوفية في حقول الآبار، والذي أدى بدوره إلى مشاكل بيئية في بعض المناطق كالتي حدثت في منطقة حقل آبار تازربو سنة (2006).
يؤدي الضخ من الآبار إلى نقص تصريف الطبقات الحاملة نتيجة لهبوط منسوب المياه الجوفية وما يتبعه من تناقص في معدل إنتاجية الآبار إضافة إلى إمكانية حدوث استنزاف موضعي في طبقات المياه الجوفية وخاصة إذا فاق معدل الضخ مقدار التغذية لطبقات الصخور الحاملة للمياه، وقد تتسع مساحة منطقة الإستنزاف لتشمل جزءاً كبيراً من الحوض المائي فإذا استمر هذا الإستنزاف فإنه يؤدي إلى نضوب مخزون المياه الجوفية، وقد يؤدي هبوط الضغط الارتوازي في الطبقات الجوفية العميقة إلى تسرب المياه الجوفية المالحة من طبقات مائية جوفية أخرى مجاورة، كما قد يؤدي سحب المياه الجوفية إلى عمليات هبوط أرضي نتيجة هبوط منسوب المياه في الخزانات الجوفية.

Ground surface subsidence is one of the Environmental problems caused by the withdrawal of groundwater. The drawdown of water levels because of continuous pumping from underground reservoirs in the well field, which in turn has led to environmental problems in some areas, such as those occurred in Tazirbo Well-Field area a year 2006.

The lowered water pressure in the sandstone basin and causes slow drainage of water from the clay and silt beds. The reduced water pressure is a loss of support for the clay and silt beds. Because these beds are compressible, they compact (become thinner), and the effects are seen as a lowering of the land surface. The lowering of land surface elevation from this process is permanent. For example, if lowered ground-water levels caused land subsidence, recharging the aquifer until ground water returned to the original levels would not result in an appreciable recovery of the land-surface elevation.
