Using GIS applications in design a responding system to pollution marine environmental reports: A case study in coast of Saudi Arabia
ِAbstract
Geographic information systems (GIS) technologies are developing rapidly in various fields, and the tendency to use them has become necessary because it meets different needs, either to facilitate the workflow, or to analyze spatial data, or to help decision makers to understand the data; due it rely on web maps and auxiliary tools for that.
This study focuses on harnessing these technologies into one of crisis and disaster management topics, which is to respond to marine environmental pollution reports, where it aimed to design a system for operations to respond to reports and manage them, to link between field teams and the operations room, starting with the report until its completion, based on web maps included in field applications and office applications. As the descriptive approach and Applied approach was followed to experiment build a system that deals with the management of response operations, the Survey123, Field Maps application for field operations and Dashboard, Web Appbuilder and Experience Builder for office applications were used in the operating room, the Survey123, Field Maps application for field operations and Dashboard, Web Appbuilder and Experience Builder for office applications were used in the operating room, which fall under the ArcGIS Online platform.
Electronic forms were designed to submit the report, forms of field surveys (sea, land and air), the equipment form and the daily report of the response process, to be used and display the results of these forms in real time by their locations in a dashboard that displays them with web maps and tools that help manage data, thus creating a system to manage the response to reports of marine environmental pollution.
The study found the possibility of using GIS applications in response operations, as well as the ease of use, linking data to maps, and the ability to display, manage and analyze them to support decision-making.
The study recommended the use of GIS systems and applications in responding to reports of marine environmental pollution, in crisis and disaster management, taking advantage of web maps to display spatial data to be managed, establishing an organization geospatial database that includes all data that monitored from response operations, and developing the system to include new possibilities and tools that can take advantage of.
